WINTER QUARTER REFLECTION
This quarter I have felt a lot more confident in my sense of belonging at UW. Having spent winter break at home with my friends and family I feel a lot more comfortable in my surroundings here and am not experiencing any homesickness any more.
I kicked off the quarter by finally performing the Stagenotes production of into the woods. This was a huge relief as last quarter it took up a huge portion of my time and, although it had been a fantastic experience, I was glad to see it finally come together. I decided that I will not audition for another performance unless I am really familiar with the musical so that I am not terribly stressed out! This show was a great source of community for me and even gave me the opportunity to perform in a short film, so I am very glad I did it!
I decided to take a break from Unleashed acappella this quarter as it was taking up a lot of my time that I needed to dedicate to my studies as well as allowing myself enough time to write music, see friends and go to the gym. One good thing that I did take up was that I became co-lead of the Honors Program Instagram through HCA which has been such a fun experience so far! I hope to continue working with this committee.
My Anth 228 class was probably the most interesting thing about this quarter, I don’t have any work to show for it in terms of an artifact due to the nature of the course, but I did find it to be a very unique experience. I have never formally studied race, gender and sexuality before but it has always been something that I have put a lot of thought to. The class met for two hours every Tuesday and Thursday and we had section for an hour on Fridays. We had A LOT of reading for this class and during class we would openly discuss the main themes of the readings, cover relevant articles, and watch a news piece/ movie excerpt.
Astr 101 was probably my favorite class of the quarter. I got close with friends that I made in my section and that helped make the campus feel smaller. I hadn’t studied astronomy for quite a few years prior to this and it was always something I had intended to get back into. The content of the class was a bit more challenging for me as I am weaker at the science than the liberal arts but I enjoyed the challenge and was successful.
Phil 102 was an enjoyable class for me, however it did come with its challenges. As it was a class on ethics, we addressed some sensitive topics and I was exposed to believes that are not common where I am from, so I had to learn how to navigate those with care. Subjects we covered involved abortion, pornography and the death penalty. All in all it was a class filled with insightful discussion and diverse perspectives.
My proudest achievement this quarter was obtaining a 4.0 gpa.

A CLOSER LOOK INTO MY SECOND QUARTER:
This is a still from the short film I was in this quarter, "Noelle". Once the film has been published on youtube I intend to upload it here as well. Shooting this has been an amazing experience, I've never done on screen acting before and I am so happy to be able to include it in my performing arts portfolio.
This essay was an assignment for PHIL 102, it was probably the biggest thing I struggled with this quarter. I am incredibly passionate about women's rights to sexual exploration and I felt as though the woman I discussed in my paper was infringing on those rights. It took a lot of refinement to compose this essay without becoming too emotional invested but all-in-all I was pleased with the outcome.
This was my favorite project of the quarter, it is my group presentation on a program my team and I worked with to model galaxies in ASTR 101. The best thing about this project is that it contributed to research being conducted by scientists working on this that aren't affiliated with UW so it felt like I was engaging in something bigger than I have done before.
